Performance Development Planning Process (PDP)
We see talent management as more than an annual performance. Our Performance Development Planning Process ( PDP) involves a high degree of participation from both the individual employee and their managers to ensure that each employee meets their fullest potential.
Our Performance Development Planning Process is a dynamic and continuous one that helps ensure the successful career development of our employees as much as it does our business objectives:
- Throughout the year, employees and managers work together to define and update employee and departmental goals.
- At mid-year, employees and managers engage in discussions to assess performance-relative career goals and objectives and to determine if changes are required or if additional support is needed.
- At the end of the year, a formal written performance evaluation takes place where new or adjusted career goals and career development opportunities are identified for the following year, and a personal career development plan is discussed and documented.
Critical to our process are frequent conversations between employees and their managers. These proactive, open and honest discussions are key to identify leadership and career development objectives and the support, training and tools needed to meet these objectives.
Values Based Leadership
Our ability to acquire, develop and retain values-based leaders is a legacy that has contributed to our consistently strong performance.
Values-based leaders demonstrate and inspire in others ethical awareness, ethical reasoning and ethical actions. Our leaders are not only responsible for this occurring, they are also held accountable for the consequences of their organizations’ actions to help ensure that we continue to uphold the legacy of the trust we have earned over many years.
We recognize the crucial importance of developing decisive and ethically grounded leaders—leaders who recognize Our Credo as much more than words on the walls of our buildings. This is the most important responsibility we have and the most important legacy we will leave behind.
Learning and Career Development Sets the Course for Success
Through our Performance Development Planning Process, our employees work with their managers to set goals for successful career development, identify the support and training they may need and put proactive steps in place in order to achieve career success.
As an employee, you will be supported to explore career growth and opportunities across functional disciplines, job functions, operating companies, business segments and even geographic boundaries.
We give all of our employees small-company attention yet open the door to big-company learning and development resources, including:
eUniversity — Our online gateway to learning and development programs, eUniversity allows all employees to search a database filled with resources about all programs offered. By searching this comprehensive intranet resource, employees can see what existing functional, regional and operating company-specific tools and systems are offered.
School of Personal and Professional Development — Our school of personal and professional development provides e-learning, classroom and blended learning and career development options. Some of these programs are available worldwide and are open to all employees across our Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies.
Management Education and Development — Part of the reason we build great business leaders is our series of programs and processes. Our Management Education and Development program is open to first-time managers, senior managers and executives so that they can receive the support they need in order to become effective values-based leaders and advance their careers.
Leadership Development Programs — For certain functional areas, these programs provide recent university graduates with a formalized, accelerated development experience across functional areas and/or operating companies.
