Safe Kids Canada
Statistics show that more children die from accidental injuries than any other cause. As part of our mandate to support and encourage healthy lifestyles and to support those who care for the health of others, Johnson & Johnson supports Safe Kids — a global public awareness and educational program that helps parents and caregivers prevent injuries due to accidents among children and youth.
Johnson & Johnson Inc. and Safe Kids Canada
We are proud to be a Founding Corporate sponsor, North America, of Safe Kids. In Canada, Johnson & Johnson Inc. provides operating funds for Safe Kids Canada and has been the lead sponsor of Safe Kids Week since 1996.
Dr. David Wesson, a surgeon at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, founded Safe Kids Canada in 1992. Dr. Wesson realized that many of the children he treated suffered from predictable and preventable accidents. His goal to help parents keep kids safe and to change the environments where kids live, learn and play was realized through Safe Kids Canada.
A strong mission. The mission of Safe Kids Canada is to promote effective strategies to prevent accidental injuries for kids across the country. Working with more than 1,800 community partners, Safe Kids Canada’s strategy of providing knowledge, health promotion and education, enforcement, engineering and evaluation, has made them a leader in reducing preventable and serious injury and death to Canada’s children and youth.
Public policy and advocacy. Safe Kids Canada is also a strong advocate when it comes to changing policy, standards and legislation in order to keep our children and youth safe.
Safe Kids Week. With sponsor support from Johnson & Johnson Inc., Safe Kids Week is a national education campaign that focuses attention on preventing injuries to children in hundreds of communities across Canada.
